The Cave called Lascaux

I think the cave people painted on cave walls because they wanted to show others about how they saw animals in the world. Art tells a story and I think the cave people desired to tell a story or a memory they experienced. Animals were probably what they saw most of the time because humans were probably spread far apart in family tribes or clans. Also the walls with overlapping images I bet were created by another artist or maybe the artist wanted to continue drawing and didnt want to move from that certain panel. They could be practicing as well, by redrawing a subject until it suited them.

The Cave Lascaux was discovered in 1940 by Jacques Marshal, Marcel Ravidat, Georges Agnel, and Simon Coencas.
The cave has drawings of mostly animals but a few pieces with people. They have paintings of red cows, Chinese horses, Black bulls, a falling cow, an upside down horse, bison, felines,a socceress, stags and the wounded man.

A large amount of objects were found in this cave, on the grounds. such things were grinding stones, mortars, limestone, schist plates, and pieces of charcol used for drawing tools. sixteen fossilized shells were found and woodworking tools like lamps and Bone tools, like an eyed needle, an awl, a spall and reindeer antlers.

The style of the art work seems to be consistant. The style is not very naturalistic; the animals dont look exactly life like but they have realistic qualities. The cave people used bold lines for the contours of the animals. The neutral color scheme shows unity of all the drawings. the hues of browns and ochre are very earthy and kind of go along with their subject matter of an organic thing such as animals. Even though the style is similar there are a variety of techniques used to create them which makes some pieces stand out when compared to one another; First the charcol drawings, the engravings, and they used different marking by making dots seperately or incorporating the dots with an animal.

The dots look like they take the place of the line and causes more movement in the horse, perhaps because the line is broken up.
